During the Partner Day General Session Carl Eschenbach mentioned in passing that VMware’s Capacity Planner assessment tools has been used to assess more than 2.5m servers since its inception.

As someone that implements Capacity Planner on a regular basis I always knew it was going to be used a lot around the world as both a great technical information gathering tool, but probably more importantly as a sales tool.

It serves as a great way to show the customers that they really do only have servers that use an average less than 5% CPU utilisation and that VMware is a great way to better utilise their hardware. However, I had no idea that a milestone as huge as 2.5 million servers had been reached.

I’d imagine that this number will grow during these tough times as end-users will want to see deomnstrable proof more regularly in order to justify the expenditure.

I wonder how long it will be before this number is at 5m?

I wouldn’t mind, but it was penned as an advanced technical solution track.

I did, however, get the chance to voice my concerns about registration in the UK during the Q&A session. VMware were very surprised by my experiences of slow registration and poor communication etc. Thankfully there was another UK partner present who relayed similar experiences.

The senior technical consultant did reassure me that if we ever have any problems again then we can contact him directly and he will give as much help as possible.

Anyone interested in his details should give me a call.
