Just a quick note to point out that VMware have posted a new white paper on performance enhancements in VirtualCenter 2.5 database.

The white paper discusses sizing of the database server, test results of performance test and much more.

The Flip Side

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

I generally post about the positive sides of virtualisation, well because I think it is great.

However, I thought I would link to this article, that talks about the death on the horizon of the Hypervisor.

Who Loves NFS?!?

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

The answer to this should be everyone. Working as a Virtualisation Consultant brings about all kinds of questions from customers and recently I have been getting lots of storage related questions.

Customers want to know what storage protocol they should be using. FC or iSCSI are the usual choices when this question is asked, seldom do they mention NFS.

VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) Updates

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I work for Triangle Computer Services who are an IT services company here in the UK. Triangle are a VMware VAC partner which meant I was able to attend a VMware Partner Solution Track last week.

I must say it was one of the best business partner related days I’ve ever been on and VMware really tried to make everyone have a good time.

There was some fun, but mostly a lot of learning and the area that interested me most was Site Recovery Manager. We have customers that are buying into VMware and more specifically ESX 3.5 on the back of the release of SRM alone, that’s how useful this tool is perceived to be. (more…)

3.5 KickStart Script Updates

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Dominic Rivera of vmprofessional.com posted a great article about updates to the kickstart scripts used for unattended installs of ESX. ESX 3.5 brought a few changes and I needed to find out what they were, this article helped me no end.

Thanks also goes to Clay Kohl for working out how to get all the vmnics into an active state, which was the bit I was after.
